Hunting in General
Now that I think about it, this probably would have been better in Education Center
I'm not sure how to word it properly.
I'm just kind of wondering if there are generic methods or guideline that all hunters apply when chasing down the supernatural?
I'm no good with questions so i'll throw out a couple examples
Do hunters share information with eachother? I mean obviously small groups. But I mean as a whole. Would a hunter a country away from you give information about something they are hunting?
Are there any rules? I mean besides not hurting humans. I mean like , "I saw it first, I get to hunt it.", kind of thing?
Anything else that's generic knowledge?
I really do suck at asking questions , but hey its off my chest now.

Re: Hunting in General
so youre asking if there's a developed hunter's community, are there any hunting codes and guidelines, and perhaps how they develop their skills?

Re: Hunting in General
Yes. There is a basic set of rules hunters follow. It's not like a list or anything... But we do share common guidelines.
And yes. Hunters do communicate, often through someone who knows someone. And if the person is a REAL hunter, yes, we will share info. No point in letting someone else get killed when you know how to kill what they are hunting!
Ummm... Most hunters don't have a huge rulebook. Some groups out there set up rules. The guy that trained me did. But the basic idea on the I saw it first is... You don't piss on someone else's boots. Hunters usually don't go into a town another hunter is KNOWN to live or be hunting in, unless they are friends. It's a good way to make enemies.
ummm... Most monster info and demon info is generic knowledge. Passed on from generation to generation, journal to journal, friend to friend. All that BS you hear people say about "secret only to families" isn't real. Certain secret societies that comingle with hunters, like the magi, do keep secrets. But we're okay with that. Doesn't hurt us.
On the development of skills... There are no set guidelines. Some train in a singular religion, some train in a singular countries' ideology, so mix them all. Really depends on the hunter with that one.

Re: Hunting in General
1. Probably not. There's a lot of paranoia in the hunter community in the global sense, so any information you get from a non-direct source is subject to the Chinese Whispers (otherwise known as Telephone) effect.
2. The rules really depend on the group.
3.Most of the stuff that works that hunters know about, they share locally, like hunt said. The big, conspiracy-style groups of "hunters" keep stuff under their hats, though.

So is it safe to say, because of variety, you can't really be sure about everything as a whole, only what you know for yourself and whatever is shared in your particular group?

Certainly. You can be safe in some sweeping generalizations, though.

Re: Hunting in General
Alright
Another question
Are there hunters out there who are like... trophy hunting? Not necessarily bringing back a piece of whatever demon or supernatural they kill. More like just so they have this grand story to tell. Kind of an ego thing.
Like a fisherman
They go out and fish come back and hold their arms apart as far as they can. "It was this big!"

Re: Hunting in General
Every single hunter I have ever met... Haha
Ego is a thing with us. We all have it. And yes, we are prone to exaggerating our kills. "That werewolf jumped 20 foot up a brick wall!" "Crocotta bit his head clean off!" "I dove right in and sawed the head off Nessie's ugly cousin myself! NO BACK UP!" I've heard some wild ones.. lmao
Now, as trophies, some hunters do. Take a claw, a tooth, a picture... You'd be surprised with some of them. I won't lie, as a society, we are basically a bunch of paranoid hermit types in dirty clothes, leather jackets, carrying around big silver bowie knives... So most come off as a bunch of crazy rednecks... But most aren't. Just can look that way haha But some live up to the image. Keeping monster parts of their big kills as ways of making themselves seem like experts or badasses to other hunters.

Re: Hunting in General
I can imagine if something exotic comes around they'd be at eachothers throats for the chance to kill it.
Oh... in regards pissing on someone's boots
how do hunters work out uncontested areas?
two hunters come to a no man's land for hunting, do they share? does seniority come into play? do they brawl with fists to determine who gets it?

Re: Hunting in General
There's a "gentleman's club" in England that screws with the paranormal for sport. All those stories about "hellfire clubs?" That and worse.

Re: Hunting in General
So, this may be a bit of a stretch, but...
Is there any sort of... I don't know, phrase, sign, symbol, something that identifies people as hunters? I really really REALLY need a mentor, and soon, but I don't know how to find experienced hunters around me besides going door to door and asking, which is not an option.

Re: Hunting in General
Well that's not quite what I meant, but thank you anyway, lol. I didn't think there was anything of the sort(I mean it'd be kinda dumb--oh yes a target painted on our skins), but I figured I'd ask just in case.
